The world’s highest mountain had remained unknown to western society until 1852, when surveyors discovered it during the charting of India. Identified as the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest became a subject of interest during the golden age of alpinism and thereafter.
Prior to the British Mount Everest expedition of 1953, roughly 10 expeditions had failed on the mountain since 1921. The incredible triumph of the successful first ascent of Mt. Everest is claimed by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, who reached the world’s highest peak on May 29, 1953.
We are delighted to honour this extraordinary achievement by the world renowned alpinists with two superb silver coins – a 2 oz silver release and a stunning 1 kilo silver edition.
Limited mintage to 1953 pcs.
